Benjamin Levinstein
Benjamin Levinstein was born in Jerusalem in 1959.
Presently lives and works in Tel Aviv-Yaffo.
Studied architecture at Bezalel Academy and Montreal University,
having his own practice 1994-2008 in Israel.
At the same time, back when there was just mail, benil was involved sporadically in Mail Art, like the project "happy birthday Marcel Duchamp" initiated by Artpool gallery in Budapest, Hungary. You can: Click here!
in 2008 Benjamin Levinstein went into hibernation, and after 7 good years came out of that hibernation two entities:
b@nihil, who collects stuff people discard, scraps, parts, wood, object broken or whole, all sorts of materials laying about in the streets, on road-sides, in mounds of refuse, in nature, where-ever i go.
These then become sculptures, or paintings, or both - by cutting, breaking, mixing, dismantling, soldering,
gluing, taking apart, burning, drawing, coloring, assembling, welding, painting…
In these works, in addition to cleaning my environment, I try and communicate my views on the world around me, from political, social and cultural perspectives.
Amekhayeh, who collects stuff people discard, scraps, parts, wood, object broken or whole, all sorts of materials laying about in the streets, on road-sides, in mounds of refuse, in nature, where-ever i go.
These then are infused with a new life, becoming objects of use – furniture both usable and non-usable, household things, lamps…
In these works, in addition to cleaning my environment, I try and communicate my views on the world around me, from political, social and cultural perspectives.
